FLOORS:
When laying the tiles, it is advisable to leave about 5 mm between one tile and the next in order to create a joint that helps make up for irregularities and small differences in tile size caused by the manual processing.
Wait for the glue to harden so that it does not release any humidity, then proceed with the treatment using beeswax or pure raw linseed oil (see following pages for proper amounts): use beeswax if you wish to leave the color of the tiles unchanged; otherwise, use linseed oil for floors with a slightly darker nuance. Only one coat of product is needed for now.
At this point, the plastering can be carried out. This process takes anywhere from 5 to 6 days in order to allow the sand and the cement to harden completely.
ARCHITECTURAL FACINGS:
The facing is laid, using tiles with thickness of 1 cm, according to same method used for ceramic facings, being careful to leave a joint as described in the laying instructions for floors.
LAYING INSTRUCTIONS OF FLAT HOLLOW TILES FOR ATTIC AND FLAT SLABS:
Arrange the wooden joists on the pitch at a proper distance with respect to the length of the flat tile, being careful to arrange the same tile up to half-way the horizontal thickness of the joist.
After the tiles are laid, proceed with stuccoing the joints; as for the floors, this will compensate for any irregularities in the handmade products.
Subsequently, in order to avoid ugly percolations of the casting water on the flat tiles and on the wooden joists, cover them with a waterproof breathable sheet, reinforced with polypropylene mesh (type Guttafol S160), being careful to start from the eaves with parallel strips up to the ridge, overlapping them by 20 cm.
When this phase is finished, proceed with casting the roof or interfloor slab. In case the horizontal interfloor slab is cast, it is recommended to place two layers of sheets, crossing over each other, using sheets with adhesive overlaps (type Guttafol 160 Adhesive), and positioning an external waterproof tape on the free overlaps in order to prevent percolation of the overlying casting water.
In any event, it is advisable to use a type of concrete with additives, and consequently with a low water content, during the casting.
ENAMELED TERRACOTTA
Lay the tiles according to the same method used for the natural terracotta tiles; prior to laying the tiles, however, it is advisable to open up all the boxes, containing tiles with different hues, and to mix up the tiles in order to ensure a more uniform look to the entire floor.
