HOW ARE MADE

HOW THEY ARE MADE:

Our terracotta tiles are unique pieces since the moment they are created: they are made from especially selected clays, hand pugged by adding water and then carefully placed, one by one, in wooden dies with the desired size. The drying process in these special molds takes between two and three weeks, depending on the time of the year, and ends with the actual firing in wood-fired walled kilns, according to ancient tradition.
This is a crucial step, since the different firing temperatures determine both the special nuances typical of terracotta and its specific resistance. In fact, this phase lasts seven days, during which heat intensity varies: for the first three days the temperature continues to climb up to about 850°C, then it is kept constant for an entire day; at the end of the seven days, during which the temperature has a chance to gradually fall, the brick door of the kiln can be torn down and the finished tiles taken out.
Lastly, the finished product can be either waxed or oiled, depending on customer taste and needs.
This manual and artisan craft is the heart of our tiles: pieces with an antique look, warm colors and slightly irregular surfaces, true unique pieces.
Suited for both renovation works and for interiors with a country yet elegant imprint, our tiles make your home incredibly beautiful and authentic, a tangible sign of style.

ENAMELED TERRACOTTA:
To add an artistic touch to our traditional handmade tiles, we have created a special type of enameling that colors the tiles and emphasizes the peculiar irregularities of the original surface. Thanks to special production techniques, we can obtain, within the same batch, uniform coloring, a craquelé effect and spots and indentations that make each tile noticeably unique and special, thus ensuring a real distinctiveness.
These tiles have such an incredible decorative effect that they can furnish and brighten any room.
